From pooped to poor
I continued my exercise routine today. I walked a bit farther today, maybe the equivalent of three city blocks. Thought I was going to collapse. My right calf was hurting; my right hip was hurting; both knees were knockin'; and I was wheezing as if I'd run 20 laps around a basketball court. Four months of inactivity has taken its toll. I knew I was going to have to take baby steps at first toward getting back in shape ~ and I was right. ...
Heard Bill Clinton on CNN today. Speaking before a group of Democrats the former president said: "We don't have to be afraid of our values. And for those of us who are about to celebrate Easter, the number one admonition in the New Testament for citizens was not to forget the poor. That's mentioned over 500 times. You can't find all that stuff they [Republicans] talk about mentioned over two or three times, if at all." ...
According to Pacific News Service: "Since President Bush took office there are 3.7 million more people living in poverty." ...
I try to avoid politics on this blog, but how many of you would sleep better if Clinton still occupied the White House? ...
Quote of the day: "When you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just." ~ Jesus

If I'm not mistaken (and I know I'm not), 9-11 happened on BUSH's watch -- not Clinton's. Further, Bush is the first president in the history of this country to cut taxes during a time of war. This shows is distain for the poor because his tax cuts don't help the poor -- or even the middle class -- just the rich. He started a war in Iraq for his Haliburton friends. How much more witll Haliburton make when he starts a war with Iran? I love our soldiers (I was one once) but they are not defending our freedom in Iraq. They are defending the Bush family's oil interest that goes back a couple of generations. Clinton wasn't perfect, but he has less blood on his hands than Bush does.
I know you didn't want to create a mass explosion of political e-mails. And I know that most of your friends believe the same as you...so I'll probably be bashed by many for my response. I believe you added the comment to you blog because you wanted something to respond to? Stir the pudding a little?
I agree that Bush and his staff have made some mistakes...after all, he's not God, just the President. We all make mistakes...but to say I'd sleep better if Clinton was still President..NO WAY! He's the one that let BinLadin go to begin with. A lot of Americans have died because of him. (911-have you forgotten?) Now, a lot of soldiers are dying to help keep us safe and so we can continue to disagree with our freedom of speech.
For most of us, becoming "one of the poor" might only be a lost job or a massive medical bill away. It's hard to find a job making the same amount of money that you've worked up to...and there are so many people that do not have any kind of insurance to fall back on. I know I'm in that boat...but I wouldn't want the government helping me. Welfare and socialized medicine is not the answer. Gov't help comes with a price...sorta like making a deal with the devil. I don't make a lot of money, and I'd make even less if Democrats come back into office and raise taxes again. There are other ways to help people without relying on the government to do it. It's not their (the gov't) job! Their #1 job is to defend our nation. There are organizations out there to help the poor. Let them do their job and let the government do its job. I prefer to help the poor by helping the poor myself...not by giving money (trrough taxes) and relying on the gov't to do it properly. The gov't screws up everything! (No matter what party is governing).
I love you and we will probably always disagree. That's the beauty of God's plan...that there are so many ideas and views. But in the long run, it really doesn't matter...we all still love and care for each other. Thank goodness God will not have politics for us to brood over in heaven!
Amen! Let's remember the quote from Jesus especially.
